Botox

I had Botox last week. Yeah, I got some funny looks from people until I explained that it is a new, invasive treatment for people with chronic migraines. Even after the explanation, my announcement struck up some controversy on my Facebook page. At first I was taken back until I told myself that anyone who would question my very educated and calculated decision to go forward with the treatment, had never seen what I go through.

I have had chronic, debilitating migraines since I was 5-years-old. I remember my parents taking me to various doctors and holding me as a small child while I cried all night. If you question the risks or my motives, you don’t know that my Dad keeps a hurricane shutter over my window making my room void of any light all year round. I have probably been hospitalized for the dehydration that they cause multiple dozens of times throughout my life. Though some seem to temporarily lesson the amount of migraines, I have failed over 40 different preventative drugs and probably even more for onset. I have seen half-a-dozen neurologists, failed bio-feedback, chiropractor adjustments, head nerve blocks and all kinds of natural supplements and modified diets.

I have to tell you that though I was warned of the possible side effects of having 36 Botox injections all over my head, I had NO idea that I would be completely incapacitated for almost an entire week. Honestly, I felt pretty darn bad and I experienced horrid memory loss, extreme fatigue and a lot of pain everywhere. Not sure what it is going to do yet but I’m hopeful. In three months, I go back again.

I have no expression in my forehead and I’m going to look AWESOME when I’m old.
